I wasn’t happy with the latest WordPress post editor changes and had been using StackEdit to draft my articles. Recently I came across uText maintained by the atareao team. uText is a beautifully minimal native Markdown editor for Ubuntu and does its job very well.
uText is written in Python. The latest version(at the time of writing) came out in Nov 2015.
- Side by side live preview
- 3 modes: day, night, fullscreen
- Spell check
- Dropbox integration
- Support for Maths symbols
- Export to HTML, ODT, PDF
As a single package uText might be tiny but it has lots of dependencies.
To install uText on Ubuntu, run:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/utext $ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install utext
