uText: Ubuntu Markdown editor

uText

I wasn’t happy with the latest WordPress post editor changes and had been using StackEdit to draft my articles. Recently I came across uText maintained by the atareao team. uText is a beautifully minimal native Markdown editor for Ubuntu and does its job very well.

uText is written in Python. The latest version(at the time of writing) came out in Nov 2015.

Features

  • Side by side live preview
  • 3 modes: day, night, fullscreen
  • Spell check
  • Dropbox integration
  • Support for Maths symbols
  • Export to HTML, ODT, PDF

Installation

As a single package uText might be tiny but it has lots of dependencies.

To install uText on Ubuntu, run:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/utext
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install utext

Rating

Features: 3.5/5
Usability: 4.5/5
