Windows 10 theme for Ubuntu

Windows 10 might not have the best user interface but some of you may still wish you could get the same on Ubuntu, at least for a change. A Windows 10 theme is available from the B00merang team. It’s fresh and quite close.

As one would expect, there are light and dark variants. If you want to push further, use the icon and pointer themes as well the GDM and MDM login screen themes. The theme is compatible with a wide range of desktops – Cinnamon 2.4/2.6/2.8, Unity 7, XFCE 4, OpenBox 3, GNOME-SHELL 3.14/3.16/3.18, LXDE 0.8, MATE 1.8/1.10, GTK 3.0 and KDE Plasma 5.

The theme works on Ubuntu 14.04 and above.

If you are on LXDE, install the Murrine theme engine:

$ sudo apt-get install lxde gtk2-engines-murrine

Installation is as easy as downloading the theme files and extracting under /usr/share/themes.

Fedora and OpenSUSE users can enjoy the theme too.

  1. I can remember when gnome2 had an almost 1:1 XP theme. Nobody was any wiser and couldn’t figure out why that computer was so smooth and stable. Perhaps this can get us there again!
