ricochet: P2P Tor based messaging

tor_compricochet is a third-party peer to peer instant messaging client taking advantage of Tor hidden services. It doesn’t reveal your identity, contact-list or communication. The login ID is your hidden service address and contacts connect to you directly (hence P2P) through Tor. There is no intermediate server to store or cache your messages. The rendezvous system makes it difficult to learn your identity from your address.

However, note that Tor never claims to be impenetrable and you are on your own when trusting it with confidential information. At the same time, it does offer more privacy and anonymity than any similar software.

Features

  • You can chat without exposing your identity (or IP address) to anyone
  • Nobody can discover who your contacts are or when you talk (metadata-free!)
  • There are no servers or operators to access and compromise your information
  • It’s cross-platform (Linux, Windows, Mac) and easy for non-technical users
