Web apps to organize, share, plan and collaborate

We just came up with the idea of sharing some free tools that help in organizing and managing daily activities both at home and workplace. While the idea is great, it was rather difficult to compare and choose a set of specific set of apps (because hundreds of them are out there) and on what activities to focus on. So we decided to have a few broad categories: sharing things, task planning, collaboration and project planning. For things to be collaborative and usable by all irrespective of the operating systems they use we started looking at web apps. And some relatively unknown but highly useful ones at that. Here are the applications that made to the list:

Redmine
This is a bit different. Redmine runs as a local web application. Which means that you have to install the software on a machine locally. Available for Unix based operating systems and Windows. But we have included it in the list because it is far more powerful that the other project planners in this article.
