Trimage: compress images on Ubuntu

trimageIf you are into blogging like me or handle a website, you know that using small size images of good quality is very important to keep the pages responsive. If you are using GPicView on Ubuntu, you will find options to save images in different formats and quality when you open one.

However if you are looking for lossless compression of images to get the same quality at a smaller size Ubuntu has just the utility you need – Trimage. The name is a combination of trim + image. It is a GUI based application using cmdline utilities like optipng and jpegoptim etc. in the background.  Supports JPG and PNG formats and is very easy to use.

To install trimage on Ubuntu:

$ sudo apt-get install trimage
