Repair CDs and USBs

coffee_compI encounter articles frequently listing huge number of utilities to be carried around in a pen drive to fix computer problems like – malware, virus, boot issues, filesystem issues etc. Why is it that almost all of the utilities have to be Windows utilities? I guess the only OS related issue that cannot be fixed from within the OS on a Linux box is a boot problem for which you just need to have the OS dumped on a bootable pen drive! No other software is required.

I have been using Linux (OpenSuSE, Ubuntu and SliTaz) over 10 years now without ever having to install a firewall or an antivirus. Security maniacs may raise their eyebrows but I never faced a single issue with this open arrangement ;).
